St Oswald’s Church in Malpas was infused with excitement and enthusiasm when over thirty-five youngsters gathered for The Great Church Mouse Competition.

The competition was inspired by 5-year-old Idris from Malpas who loves making models at home with his mum, Marie Lumb.  Keen for a mouse making competition for Idris, Marie approached Ian Davenport, Rector at St Oswald’s Church, who was delighted to share the fun over Easter with Idris’s friends and their families. The Rector joined in a great morning of mouse making in Malpas Church alongside creating the Easter Garden and parachute games.

“Well done to everyone who took part in The Great Church Mouse Competition, the standard was so high, picking winners was almost impossible,” said Canon Ian.  “Thank you to Idris and Marie, Ozzie’s Sunday School Club and everyone who took part and helped make our Easter Garden.”

“It was perfect weather and we were all delighted to bring the community together for fun and games at St Oswald’s this Easter,” said Marie.

There were prizes for completing the church mouse hunt and church members provided homemade cakes for refreshments and donated items such as interesting buttons so that children could personalise their “mice” creations.  Ann Welby with Canon Ian and Anne, Archdeacon of Halifax took on the difficult task of judging the competition.  The standard was high and competition tough as four winners were selected alongside runners up in the categories – pre-school, primary, secondary and adult.
